Why Is My House So Hot?
Is running the AC all day creating a dent in your pocket? Are you struggling with finding a way to keep your home more comfortable during the hot summer months? Today I am going to give you the 3 tips that you need to keep your home more comfortable. Read below to see what these 3 tips are!
1. Check on the air sealing measures within your home. Oftentimes, older homes are not properly air sealed and are allowing a lot of heat transfer into your house. Even if you have nice new fiberglass insulation, this air will still flow through. The fiberglass batts act more like a sweater during cold winter months. You may feel comfortable until the wind blows whereas you will need to wear a windbreaker to stay warm. The air sealing acts as the windbreaker to resist airflow.
2. Fiberglass insulation is NOT the best option for insulation anymore! Cellulose insulation has taken a forefront in recent years as it is a great eco-friendly option which can attain a higher r-value than fiberglass! Not only is it eco-friendly for the earth but also eco-friendly for your pockets. Since it is mainly composed of recycled materials, it costs less than traditional fiberglass batts. Make sure your home is properly insulated with cellulose to ensure more consistent temperatures throughout the day.
3. Make sure you have updated high efficiency windows installed. Windows can become a high point where air and heat are transferred. Windows account for around 25% of all the heat exchange in your home. Not only this but we find that window sills have become cracked and are letting air flow directly through them as if your window was cracked open and not closed at all. Using caulk to properly air seal the windows will be one way to prevent this air leakage, however the thermal transfer will still occur and this is where new windows will help.
These 3 tips are major in order to maintain a consistent and more comfortable interior temperature year round!
